If you use computers, iPads, or tablets every day, it is important to be able to type properly. You can learn to type quickly and without making mistakes by learning the proper technique first, then working on typing with accuracy, and finally, by building speed.
Technique
Technique is the way you type. To type with the proper technique, you should:
1. Sit up straight.
2. Keep feet flat.
3. Keep your fingers over the HOME KEYS (asdf jkl;)
4. Keep wrists straight and fingers curved.
5. Keep eyes on the text.

Accuracy
Accuracy is when you can type without making many errors. Accuracy is usually measured in percentages. For example, if you typed without making ANY mistakes, your accuracy would 100%!
Your Goals:
For 3rd grade students: You will need to try to type with AT LEAST 80% accuracy or higher.
For 4th and 5th students: You will need to type with AT LEAST 90% accuracy or higher.

Speed
Speed is usually the last thing we work on. There is no point in typing fast, if you cannot do it with accuracy and with the proper technique. WARNING! If you do not have good typing technique, you will NEVER type faster than 35-40 words per minute. Speed is measured in words per minute (wpm).
Your Goals:
3rd grade students: 10 wpm
4th grade students: 15 wpm
5th grade students: 20 wpm
